Decide what should be refreshed
Start by separating items you want to keep from items you plan to replace. For cabinetry and built-ins, make a list of the existing areas you want painted. For furniture, choose pieces that remain in sound condition and describe the change you have in mind. This can help distinguish a painting project from work involving new construction, moving cabinets, or wall painting, which are not services.
Prepare for a design conversation
For design or decorating help, gather a few notes about how the room is used, which furnishings or finishes should stay, and what feels unresolved. Photos or measurements can also help you organize your ideas before discussing the project. These are general preparation suggestions, not a required provider process.
Think through the finish and scope
For a painting project, consider which surfaces are included and how the updated finish should relate to nearby materials. For a furniture refresh, think about the piece’s role in the room and what you want to preserve. Clear notes about the intended scope can make it easier to compare possible approaches.
