Plan the scope of the painting project

Before seeking help with interior or exterior painting, make a list of the rooms, walls, ceilings, or exterior surfaces you want considered. Note any areas you want excluded, as well as visible peeling, stains, cracks, or previous repairs. This is useful preparation advice, not a statement about how the provider conducts projects. For a multi-room project, decide whether all spaces should be addressed together or whether you want to prioritize particular rooms. A clear scope makes it easier to discuss the work and compare options.

Consider paint choices and room use

For interior painting, think about the room’s use, the amount of daily wear on its surfaces, and the appearance you prefer. Color samples viewed in the room’s lighting can help narrow choices. The right finish can also depend on how often a surface needs cleaning, so consider that when comparing options. For exterior painting, identify the surfaces involved and note any areas that appear weathered or damaged. These observations can help focus a discussion about the painting scope without assuming that every surface requires the same preparation.

Prepare useful project questions

Before discussing a painting project, consider asking which surfaces are included, what preparation may be appropriate, and whether you need to make any changes to the space before work begins. You can also ask how paint choices relate to the intended use of each room or surface. If the project address is outside Miami, compare its ZIP code with the service-area coverage. The service information includes interior and exterior painting; it does not specify additional trades or repair services.
