Define the project before choosing a service
As a planning step, describe the outcome you want before deciding whether the work is primarily decorating, renovation, or part of a new build. Note which rooms are involved, what you want to preserve, and what needs to change. For a renovation, distinguish structural or layout goals from finish preferences; for decorating, list the colors, furnishings, or window treatments you want to address. This makes the scope easier to explain without assuming that every project needs the same kind of work.
Gather useful design references
For interior design or a new-build project, collect a few examples that show the mood, materials, or arrangements you prefer. Add notes about practical needs, such as storage, circulation, or how a room is used during the day. A short list of must-haves and flexible choices can help keep discussion focused while leaving room to compare alternatives.
Prepare for drapery decisions
Before considering draperies, measure each window and record the measurements separately. Think about whether you want to soften daylight, increase privacy, or coordinate with other finishes. Also note any nearby furniture or fixtures that may affect the fabric, length, or way the window treatment is used. These are general preparation suggestions, not a description of a required provider process.
