Prepare a clear project scope

As a planning step, write down the spaces involved and separate the work into distinct scopes, such as painting, flooring, window treatments, or carpentry. Note existing conditions, dimensions where available, and any materials already selected. If several trades are involved, list which work depends on another task being completed first. This makes it easier to compare the intended scope with the services being considered.

Gather details for specialty installations

For FF&E, acoustic panels, custom wall finishes, or art installation, collect product specifications, finish samples, drawings, and site photos if available. Record quantities and intended locations, and identify any delicate or unusually sized items. These details can help clarify what needs installation and what coordination may be needed with designers, vendors, or other project participants.

Choose services by the work required

Start with the outcome you need rather than assuming one service covers every part of a renovation. A request for window work may concern windows, window treatments, or automated shades; describe which one you mean. For a sound-focused interior, identify whether you are considering acoustic wall panels or ceiling features. For exterior work, specify whether the request concerns roofing, gutters, siding, or painting.
