Prepare a clear project brief
Before discussing a design project, write down the rooms or work areas involved and the main reasons for changing them. Separate essential needs, such as storage or circulation, from preferences such as color, materials, or a particular look. Photos, rough measurements, and a short list of items that must stay can make the initial conversation more focused. These are general preparation suggestions, not a required process.
Choose the right scope
The services range from focused decisions, including color selection and consultation, to elements that can shape a larger project, such as millwork, furnishings, art, and installation coordination. Consider whether the main challenge is one room decision or several connected parts of a space. Identifying the decisions you want help with can make it easier to discuss a suitable project scope.
Plan custom pieces around the space
Custom furniture and lighting can be considered alongside the room they are intended for. Before settling on a concept, note the piece’s intended function, the available floor or wall space, and any size or placement limits. For a broader furnishing plan, make an inventory of what is already in the space and identify what should be retained, replaced, or newly designed.

Questions about Rachel Blindauer Interior Design
What interior design services are available?
The service range includes color selection, design consultations, millwork, furnishings, art, purchasing, and installation coordination. Custom furniture and lighting design are also offered, so a project may involve both the room plan and selected pieces.
Can the practice design custom furniture or lighting?
Yes. The work includes custom design and development of furniture and lighting, along with rugs, sofas, and mirrors. Before discussing a piece, it can help to note the room dimensions, intended use, and any practical constraints such as access or placement.
Does the practice work on commercial as well as residential interiors?
The work includes both residential and commercial design. For either type of space, a useful starting point is to identify who uses it, what activities happen there, and which existing elements need to remain.
What should I consider before choosing colors for a room?
Color selection is among the interior design services. To make color choices easier to evaluate, gather photos of the space in different lighting and note fixed finishes, furnishings, or artwork that the palette should work with.
What should I think about before planning millwork?
Millwork is included in the service range, along with furnishings and art. Before planning built-in details, consider storage needs, how the room is used, and which dimensions or existing features may affect the design.
Are purchasing and installation coordination part of the work?
The service mix includes purchasing and installation coordination as well as furnishings and art. Keeping a record of selected items, room measurements, and delivery or access constraints can help clarify what needs coordination.
