Choosing between refinishing and replacement
Start with the surface’s condition and the change you want. Refinishing is available for tubs, tile, sinks, cabinets, and countertops, making it a possible route when the existing fixture or surface is staying in place. If a surface has damage or other concerns, note them in advance and ask whether refinishing is appropriate for that material. Replacement may still be worth considering when the scope involves more than the surface finish.
Prepare details before discussing a surface project
As general preparation, list the surfaces and rooms involved, identify materials where you know them, and describe the current finish and the look you hope to achieve. Photos and measurements can help you organize those details. For tile or a tub, note whether nearby surfaces are also part of the planned update; for cabinets and countertops, specify which sections are included.
Match the service to the material
The options cover several materials and project types, including porcelain and fiberglass tubs, tile, Formica, cultured marble, cabinets, and epoxy-coated floors or countertops. Before selecting a service, confirm the material and ask which refinishing option fits it. If you are weighing a coordinated kitchen or bathroom update, decide whether the plan includes one feature or several, such as a tub together with surrounding tile.
